| A deep yellow cheese with a generous sprinkling of cumin which is distributed evenly throughout the cheese. An extraordinarily good combination of the bright, warming flavor from cumin seeds with the cool and creamy taste of the cheese. This has a slightly dryer, firmer texture than Gouda. Delicious high-quality, traditional cheese which looks as good as it tastes. This cheese is named after the city of Leyden where it was developed. In the 17th century, Hollands "Golden Century", rare and exotic spices and herbs were pouring in from colonies from the east and far corners of the world. In Leyden, the valuable cumin seeds were put into the cheese, creating a truly unique and distinguished cheese product. Leyden has 42% less fat in dry matter and therefore tastes a little dryer than Gouda.. |
